Johnny Depp is finally set to return to mainstream cinema with Paramount Pictures' upcoming adaptation of Charles Dickens' classic tale 'A Christmas Carol'.

Titled 'Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol', the film will be directed by horror filmmaker Ti West and screenplay will be by Nathaniel Halpern.

Andrea Riseborough will co-star alongside Depp, with Emma Watts serving as the producer. If negotiations are finalised, the film is scheduled for release on 13 November 2026.

Depp will portray the infamous Ebenezer Scrooge, the cold-hearted London businessman who is visited by the ghosts of Christmas past, present and future. The character has become an enduring figure in cinema, previously brought to life by actors such as Alastair Sim, Bill Murray, Michael Caine and Jim Carrey.

This project marks Depp's first major studio role since 2018's 'Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald'. Meanwhile, his directorial return 'Modi: Three Days on the Wing of Madness' is due for release in November.

Ebenezer promises to deliver a dark yet emotional retelling of one of literature's most beloved redemption stories.
