ISU hosts seminar on teaching quality improvement
International Standard University (ISU) organised a seminar entitled "Make Your Teaching Visible" at its Mohakhali campus to strengthen the quality of education through faculty development initiatives.
The event was arranged by the university's Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC).
Professor Dr Abdul Awal Khan, Vice-Chancellor of ISU, attended the event as chief guest, while Dr Ahmed Mustafa, Professor of Biological Sciences at Purdue University Fort Wayne, USA, and Director of the Life Sciences Resource Centre, delivered the keynote address.
In his speech, Professor Dr Abdul Awal Khan highlighted ISU's commitment to academic excellence, stating that the university has been led by highly qualified faculty members since its inception.
He noted that ISU's IQAC has been continuously working to enhance teaching quality and urged faculty to focus on student-centred learning, saying, "Our goal is to help students become not only skilled professionals, but also good human beings."
Delivering his keynote, Professor Dr Ahmed Mustafa emphasised the inseparable link between teaching and research, noting, "A good teacher must also be a good researcher—otherwise, one remains a lecturer for life."
He encouraged faculty members to build robust research portfolios, broaden professional networks, and cultivate keen observational skills to strengthen their academic careers.
The session was chaired by Professor Dr Md Ekramul Hoque, Director of IQAC. Among others present were Professor H.T.M. Quader Newaz, Treasurer; Professor Dr Monjur Morshed Mahmud, Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies; Professor Md Abul Kashem, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology; and Dr Monirul Hasan Masum, Additional Director of IQAC. Heads of department and a large number of faculty members also attended the seminar.
