Israil Howlader appointed new Gazipur police chief; 6 SPs transferred
The government has appointed Md Israil Howlader, deputy inspector general (DIG) of the Industrial Police, as the new commissioner of Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP). In addition, six police superintendents (SPs) have been transferred.
The transfers were announced today (16 November) in a notification issued by the Police-1 branch of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
According to the notification, Industrial Police DIG Md Israil Howlader has been made the commissioner of GMP. Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) Superintendent of Police Mohammad Sarwar Alam has been posted as the SP of Gaibandha district, while Dinajpur SP Md Marufat Hussain has been transferred to Faridpur.
DMP's Md Mizanur Rahman has been appointed as the new SP of Dinajpur.
Meanwhile, Habiganj SP ANM Sajedur Rahman has been transferred to Pabna as the district's police superintendent, and DMP's Gautam Kumar Biswas has been posted as the new SP of Habiganj.
On 10 November, former GMP commissioner Nazmul Karim Khan — withdrawn two months ago for blocking public roads during his personal commute — was suspended from government service.
The home ministry's Police-1 division issued the suspension order, stating, "It has become necessary and appropriate, in the public interest, to keep Gazipur Metropolitan Police Commissioner [currently withdrawn to Police Headquarters] Md Nazmul Karim Khan away from government duties. Therefore, he is suspended from government service under the relevant provisions of the Government Service Act."
The circular added that during the suspension period, Nazmul Karim Khan will remain attached to the home ministry and will receive subsistence allowance as per government rules.
