The Inter-Services Public Relations Directorate (ISPR) today (14 December) released the identities of six Bangladeshi peacekeepers killed and eight others injured in a drone attack on a UN logistics base in Sudan.

The fallen peacekeepers were Corporal Md Masud Rana (Natore); Sainik Md Mominul Islam (Kurigram); Sainik Shamim Reza (Rajbari); Sainik Shanto Mondol (Kurigram); mess waiter Md Jahangir Alam (Kishoreganj); and laundry worker Md Sobuj Mia (Gaibandha).

ISPR said in a press statement that a "separatist armed group" carried out a drone attack on the Kadugli logistics base under the United Nations peacekeeping mission in the Abyei area of Sudan between approximately 3:40pm and 3:50pm local time yesterday.

The injured peacekeepers are Lieutenant Colonel Khondaker Khalekuzzaman (Kushtia); Sergeant Md Mostakim Hossain (Dinajpur); Corporal Afroza Parvin Iti (Dhaka); Lance Corporal Mahibul Islam (Barguna); Sainik Md Mezbaul Kabir (Kurigram); Sainik Mst Umme Hani Akter (Rangpur); Sainik Chumki Akter (Manikganj); and Sainik Md Manazir Ahsan (Noakhali).

According to ISPR, all eight are receiving medical treatment. Among them, Sainik Mezbaul, in critical condition, has already undergone a successful surgery and is currently under close observation.

The remaining seven injured peacekeepers have been airlifted by helicopter for advanced treatment and are out of danger, it added.

The Bangladesh Army strongly condemned the brutal attack, stating that the sacrifice of the fallen peacekeepers will remain a proud and shining testament to Bangladesh's commitment to global peace.
