Govt definitely wants Hasina's repatriation: Home adviser
Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury today (17 November) said they want the repatriation of ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, reports BSS.
An International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) today sentenced Sheikh Hasina and her cabinet colleague, former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Kamal, to death for crimes against humanity for ordering a crackdown to suppress last year's student-led July Uprising.
"We definitely want the repatriation of Sheikh Hasina. We have already sent a letter (to India). If required, we will again send a letter seeking her repatriation," he said.
The adviser made the remarks while replying to questions from journalists after coming out of a Core Committee meeting on law and order at the Home Ministry in the Secretariat in Dhaka.
'No panic on the roads'
Jahangir also said there is no reason for panic surrounding the verdict against Sheikh Hasina, reads a press release.
"I don't see any kind of panic. We have been out all day, moving from one place to another. There is no panic on the roads. We are travelling by road without any issues," he told reporters.
"A few minor incidents have taken place. There have been some small crude bomb explosions. But those involved in these incidents are being caught."
The home adviser sought the cooperation of journalists and the public in preventing such incidents.
In response to a question from journalists about a so-called 'shoot-on-sight' instruction of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, the adviser said, "No such order has been issued. What we said is self-defence.
"Just as firearm licences are issued for self-defence, not for shooting anyone, the same applies here."
