The deceased Anas Khan is the son of Al Amin Khan, of Chinashukania village under Rajabari union of Sreepur upazila, said police. Al Amin works in Saudi Arabia.

Anas was a nursery student at a local kindergarten.

Police have detained two people -- Nazrul Islam, 50, of Chinashukania village, and his wife Shahinur Begum, 35 -- over the incident.

Gazipur Additional Superintendent of Police (Kaliakoir Circle) Merajul Islam told The Daily Star that the child's body was recovered from the beel in the village around 12:30pm.

The deceased's uncle Monir Hossain told The Daily Star, "Anas was last seen playing with another child. The child from a neighbouring house returned home, but Anas did not return. Later, I filed a general diary with Sreepur Police Station and informed DB police."

Inspector Hasmat Ali of Gazipur Detective Branch said the incident of the child's disappearance went viral on social media.

Later, Sreepur Police Station and Gazipur district Detective Branch started a shadow investigation.

Later, on suspicion, Nazrul and his wife were detained around 10:00pm yesterday. When questioned, they confessed to murdering the child and leaving the body in the middle of the beel, said the DB official.

Later, DB recovered the child's body from the beel.
