Bangladesh must not be known as a fascist state again: BNP's Moyeen
BNP Standing Committee Member Abdul Moyeen Khan has said misleading people will not bring political success and stressed that Bangladesh must not once again be identified globally as a fascist state.
Speaking today (17 December) as the chief guest at a discussion at the National Press Club, the BNP leader said the party will continue its struggle against misgovernance and work to build a humane Bangladesh.
Moyeen said even after 54 years of independence, people are still searching for democracy.
He added that past and present leaders must be held accountable for their failures, while future leaders must clearly explain how they will resolve these issues if elected.
Whenever authoritarian rulers have curtailed freedom of expression, uprisings have followed, Moyeen said.
Meanwhile, BNP Chairperson's Adviser Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal said the Awami League has used the Liberation War as a political tool and claimed its leaders are not genuine freedom fighters.
Prof Dr Harun Al Rashid, president of the Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB), which organised the programme, said people know well what role those who are now scrambling for power played during the Liberation War.
He said they killed the nation's finest sons and stressed that these facts must once again be brought before the new generation.
