The Bangladesh Embassy in Algiers observed the Great Victory Day 2025 on 16 December with due dignity, enthusiasm and festive spirit.

The programme, held at the chancery building, was attended by embassy officials and staff along with their families, local businesspeople, journalists, political figures and members of the Bangladeshi expatriate community.

In the morning, Bangladesh Ambassador to Algeria Md Nazmul Huda formally hoisted the national flag at the embassy premises, accompanied by the rendition of the national anthem.

Later, a discussion meeting was held at the embassy under the chairmanship of the ambassador, with the participation of embassy officials and staff, members of the Bangladeshi community and invited guests. The discussion began with a special prayer seeking eternal peace for the martyrs of the Liberation War of 1971 and the July–August 2024 student-led mass uprising, speedy recovery of the injured, and continued peace, security and progress of the country.

Messages issued by the president, the chief adviser and the foreign affairs adviser on the occasion of Victory Day were read out. A documentary titled "Shrabon Bidroh", produced by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on the Liberation War and the July–August uprising, was also screened.

In his speech, Ambassador Md Nazmul Huda paid tribute to the martyrs of the Liberation War of 1971 and the July–August 2024 uprising and remembered the contributions of the brave fighters with gratitude. Extending greetings to expatriate Bangladeshis, he said the student-led mass uprising of 2024 sought to fully realise the spirit and ideals of the Liberation War, and called on all to work collectively to fulfil the aspirations of the martyrs and fighters of both periods.

The ambassador highlighted Bangladesh's socio-economic progress and achievements and urged expatriate Bangladeshis to continue contributing to sustaining the country's development momentum.

Referring to reform initiatives undertaken by the interim government under the leadership of the chief adviser, he called for collective efforts to continue the reform process. He also mentioned the opportunity for expatriate Bangladeshis to exercise their voting rights for the first time, urging them to complete registration in due time and cast their votes in line with the rules, describing it as a milestone in the country's democratic journey.

The programme concluded with a luncheon featuring traditional Bangladeshi cuisine, hosted in honour of the guests.
