Azam Khan's musical legacy is set for a structured revival. On November 8, the late musician's family, his band Uchcharon, and the event management agency Cool Exposure formalised a tripartite agreement to relaunch the group with a focus on domestic and international concerts.
The agreement secures ownership of Azam Khan's name, image and creative copyrights for his family, while authorising Uchcharon to perform and promote his body of work.
The signing included Azam Khan's daughter Aroni Khan, Uchcharon band leader Dulal Zoha, and Cool Exposure CEO Ershadul Haque Tinku.
Speaking on the occasion, Dulal Zoha described the deal as "a historic step to present Azam Khan's musical heritage to the world," stressing the band's intention to bring his songs to audiences beyond Bangladesh.
Azam Khan founded Uchcharon in 1972 with friends Neelu, Sadek and Mansur shortly after the Liberation War. The band gained national recognition with early hits such as "Eto Shundor Duniaye Kichu Na Rabe Re" and "Char Kalema Sakshi Debe", broadcast on BTV the same year. Over time, the group became a defining force in Bangladesh's emerging rock scene, shaping a generation of musicians and listeners.
Following Azam Khan's death on 5 June 2011, the band's activities came to a halt. Fourteen years later, Uchcharon returned to the stage on June 22 at an event titled "Guru Reloaded", marking a symbolic comeback. The newly signed agreement solidifies that return, establishing legal and administrative clarity for future work.
Under the terms of the contract, Azam Khan's family retains all intellectual property rights associated with his name, music and image. Uchcharon will continue performing and promoting his songs, while Cool Exposure manages marketing, royalty oversight and concert logistics. Organisers say this structure is designed to safeguard the integrity of Azam Khan's legacy and expand its reach.
