The trial in the case over the killing of Begum Rokeya University student Abu Sayed during July uprising, may be completed by January next year, Prosecutor Mizanul Islam said today.
Speaking to reporters at a press briefing on the premises of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) in Dhaka, Mizanul said recording testimony in the case against 30 people, including former vice-chancellor of the university Hasibur Rashid, is progressing steadily.
"Today, the 12th witness testified. We expect to complete the cross examination after taking statements from 30 to 35 witnesses in total," Mizanul said.
"We cannot predict when the verdict will be delivered, but we hope to conclude the trial proceedings by January," he added.
Abu Sayed was killed in police firing on July 16 last year during the mass uprising.
