5 madrasah students allegedly raped in Nawabganj, case filed against absconding principal
A case has been filed against Md Wasim, the principal of a madrasah in Nawabganj Upazila in Dhaka, for allegedly raping five children, reports Prothom Alo.
The case was filed by the mother of one of the victims at Nawabganj Police Station on Friday night (24 October).
Nawabganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mominul Islam told Prothom Alo, "The case was accepted based on the case filed by a victim's mother. Police are working to arrest the accused teacher."
According to the FIR and the victims' families, Wasim would frequently call the child students to his bedroom and rape them. On 15 October, one victim was unwilling to go to the madrasah. When her mother repeatedly asked her why, the child, crying, revealed the teacher's actions to her.
After the incident became known in the area, four more children from the same village reported similar allegations. This created tension in the area. Sensing the situation, Wasim fled on the night of 20 October. He has been absconding since.
The institution has been closed following the incident, said a local who lives next to the madrasah.
