A seminar on higher education in Australia was held at Hotel Amaari in Dhaka on Sunday, organised by the world-renowned Macquarie University of Australia as part of its annual 'Open Day' event.

The session drew strong participation from students and parents interested in pursuing studies abroad.

The event was inaugurated by Professor Dr Yusuf Ali Molla, former Acting Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC). Reflecting on his own PhD journey at Macquarie University, he described Australia as "an ideal destination for Bangladeshi students" due to its world-class education system and academic environment.

Speaking at the event, Mustafizur Rahman, Senior Director for South Asia at the Australian Trade and Investment Commission, said, "For quality education and research, Macquarie University can be one of the top choices for Bangladeshi students. Events like the Open Day help them explore diverse academic and scholarship opportunities."

Tanveer Shaheed, Director of International Recruitment at Macquarie University, highlighted the contributions of Bangladeshi students to the university's vibrant academic community. "They bring unique perspectives and diversity to our campus. Through this event, we aim to connect with aspiring students and encourage greater participation in Macquarie's academic programmes," he said.

Also present were Dr Ansgar Fehnker, Associate Professor at the Macquarie University School of Computing; Alkayet Hossain, Senior Country Manager; Md Majadul Alam, Regional Coordinator; and other Bangladeshi representatives of the university.

Discussions at the event focused on leadership development, employability skills, scholarships, and various aspects of higher education in Australia.
