Dinajpur district football team came from behind to book their place in the final of the National Championship, securing a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Chittagong in a thrilling semifinal at the Birshreshtha Shaheed Mostafa Kamal Stadium in Kamalapur today.
Chittagong opened the scoring as early as the fifth minute through Jahedul Alam. Dinajpur, however, restored parity in first-half stoppage time to go into the break at 1-1.
After the restart, Sagor Mohanto put Dinajpur ahead in the 64th minute, before Milon Islam extended the lead in the 73rd minute to make it 3-1, seemingly sealing their place in the final. Chittagong did manage to reduce the margin in stoppage time courtesy of Akteruzzaman, but the goal came too late to affect the outcome.
Milon, who scored one and played a pivotal role in Dinajpur's comeback, was named man of the match.
Dinajpur will play the final on November 22 against the winners of the second semifinal between Sirajganj and Jashore, which is scheduled for Wednesday.
