The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has deployed 14 platoons in Dhaka, Narayanganj, and Gazipur to maintain law and order and ensure public safety.

BGB Public Relations Officer Shariful Islam confirmed the deployment to The Daily Star this morning.

He said 12 platoons have been deployed across Dhaka city, while two platoons were already stationed in Narayanganj and Gazipur city corporation areas.

The move comes ahead of the International Crimes Tribunal-1's announcement of the verdict date in the case against former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and two of her close associates over crimes against humanity.

On October 23, International Crimes Tribunal-1 Chairman Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mozumder said the tribunal would set the verdict date for November 13 and deliver the ruling shortly thereafter.

Meanwhile, the Awami League, whose activities have been banned, has called for a "Dhaka lockdown" programme tomorrow (November 13), prompting heightened security concerns after a series of crude bomb explosions and arson attacks on vehicles in Dhaka and Gazipur.

Home Adviser Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said yesterday, "Law-enforcing agencies are on high alert ahead of November 13. They will remain in a strong position to ensure normalcy. There is no cause for concern."

He warned that "no leniency will be shown toward terrorists".
