10 Dhaka venues to screen docs on rights abuses
Dhaka will stage a series of documentary screenings today, 12 November, spotlighting fascism, enforced disappearances, killings and looting, as the Ministry of Cultural Affairs rolls out a coordinated awareness drive across the capital. The films will be shown simultaneously at ten locations from 6pm to 10pm, with the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy overseeing the event. The event details were also shared on the Chief Adviser's Facebook page. "All are invited," read the post.
The initiative combines documentary storytelling with live cultural performances, including ;Songs of July', intended to evoke the spirit of the Liberation War and reaffirm commitments to democracy and human dignity. The programme aims to draw citizens into public spaces for an evening of reflection, dialogue and artistic expression.
Screenings will be held at venues including TSC at Dhaka University, Jatrabari Park, Rabindra Sarobar in Dhanmondi, Khilgaon Shanti Park, Mirpur Pallabi (Hafiz Mor Ground), Uttara Sector 7 Muktamancha, Jamjam Tower in Uttara, Mohammadpur Town Hall, Banani Elephant Road and Hatirjheel's Rampura end. Organisers say the films will shine a light on rights abuses while the musical performances add a unifying cultural dimension to the night.
